Writer, Poet, Actor

Based in: Stockton-on-Tees

Kian Lee Hoban is a writer, poet, and actor from Thornaby.

As someone with a long history and a great passion for reading and writing, Kian constantly seeks to challenge himself in both regards.

Kian has experience writing essays, poems, short stories, plays, and screenplays, some of which have been turned into short films. He has now written reviews, gallery texts, personal essays, opinion columns and more, each covering a wide range of topics.

Kian is in the process of writing his first full-length book, a surrealist work which focuses on death and memory. His influences range from classic writers like Charlotte Brontë and James Joyce, to more modern artists like Fleur Jaeggy and Gerald Murnane.

Although he writes across many genres, his favourite genre is surrealist-gothic horror. He is interested in taking very mundane moments, and using them to explore dreams, memories, and myths. A lot of Kian’s screenplays are purposefully set in the North East.

Kian would eventually like to progress further in the humanities and start research for a PhD.
